What we do
Most contractors buy from four suppliers. You could buy from one.
Aggregate, concrete, asphalt, trucking, equipment and the crew to install it — all under one roof, all scheduled by one office. Fewer handoffs, fewer delays, one number to call when something changes on site.
Rock face to finished road
Five suppliers, or one company that owns every step.
Most of what goes wrong on a job happens in the gaps between trades — the load that did not show, the mix that was not ready, the crew waiting on gravel. We own all five steps, so there are no gaps to fall into.
-
Ten quarries and pits across Eastern Ontario, and we do our own drilling and blasting. The stone in your base course came off a face we own.
Owned: 10 sites · Class A licences
-
Our own crushers and our own materials lab. Every product is graded and checked against Ontario OPSS specification before it leaves the pit — not sampled after it arrives on your site.
Owned: crushing plant · in-house lab
-
Grant Ready Mix runs a fully computerized plant that will batch any mix design at any volume, and we supply hot-mix asphalt from the same aggregate. One source, one spec, one invoice.
Owned: ready-mix plant · asphalt supply
-
Our fleet, our dispatch, our schedule. When a pour moves up a day, we move the trucks — we are not waiting on a third-party hauler to call back.
Owned: fleet · dispatch
-
Road construction, sewer and watermain, site work and paving, with our own crews and our own equipment. The same company that quarried the stone finishes the road.
Owned: crews · equipment · COR™ certified
Aggregates
We do our own drilling and crushing.
That is the whole difference. The stone in your base course came out of our rock face, through our crusher, across our scale and onto our truck — and it was tested in our own lab on the way.
Granular A, Granular B, clear stone, screenings, concrete and mason sand, rip rap and armour stone, all to Ontario OPSS specification. If you need a number before you call, the calculator will get you within a load.
The network
Ten quarries means the stone starts closer to your site.
Haulage is the part of an aggregate bill nobody talks about. Our pits run from Greely down to the St. Lawrence and east to the Quebec line — so the material you order usually loads within half an hour of where it is going.
Since 1949
Ivan Grant built the crusher himself.
He had three employees and one idea: if you are going to sell stone, you should be the one who makes it.
Seventy-six years later there are more than two hundred and thirty of us, and the third generation of Grants still runs the place — David as President, Peter as Vice President, Cathy as Secretary-Treasurer. The fourth generation is already on the payroll.
It is the reason we answer the phone the way we do. When a company stays in one family and one river valley for four generations, its reputation is not a marketing asset. It is the family name.
Safety
Half a million hours without a lost-time injury.
Every person who goes out on a Cornwall Gravel crew comes home. That is not a slogan — it is an audited number, and it is why municipalities are comfortable putting our crews on their roads.

Selected work
The pipe under your street, probably.
We have installed new waterlines and sewers for Brockville, Prescott and Ottawa, and paved for the province. Municipal work is the backbone of this company.
